Do you ever find yourself running out of ideas for fun family activities? Check out these Ten family fun night ideas for your next family activity.
1) Backyard Campout Night
Camping doesn’t have to take place in the forest. Popping up the tent in the backyard is a great way to have a convenient vacation. Remember to include all the things that you normally would at a campsite: S’mores, flashlights, sleeping bags, etc. Be sure to play some fun camping games too! 2) Dessert Out Night Surprise your kids by eating dinner at home and announcing that you’re taking them out for dessert! If it’s warm, head to an outdoor ice cream parlor and if it’s colder, go out for warm apple pie. 3) Picture Night Have a fun photo shoot with your kids by inviting a friend over who does photography as a hobby. Don’t just stick to classic poses and matching outfits. Make sure you allow your kids’ goofy personalities to shine through. Take them to the store and let them pick their favorites to print off. 4) Scavenger Hunt Night Split your family up or compete against another family who wants to have a family night. Give each team a digital camera to document their findings. Examples of fun things to add to the scavenger hunt search list include a wacky hairstyle (can you say mullet?) or a member of the group climbing a tree. 5) Movie Night Watch a movie together as a family. Some ways to keep this family-friendly and interactive include watching a film with a controversial message and discussing it afterward or hanging a sheet on a wall outside of your house and having your own drive-in type show. 6) Family Volunteer Night Research shows that giving back to a good cause can help improve your overall happiness, mental well-being, and self-esteem. Now, take those good feelings to the next level by volunteering with your family members! Find an organization that you’re all passionate about; local animal shelter, children’s home, or environmental organization, and give back as a family. 7) DIY Pizza Night Almost everyone LOVES pizza! And what family activity could be better than making your own? Purchase pre-made pizza dough or make your own, gather all of the ingredients, and let your family members create their own customized pizzas. 8) Balloon tennis Ever want to play tennis inside? Now you can with balloon tennis. All you need to do is blow up some balloons and, if you want to be official, grab tennis rackets. Once your balloons are ready, split up into two teams and start swatting them back and forth. If you care to keep score, do so however you’d like. Hitting balloons around might be all the fun you need. 9) Indoor bowling Find a good spot in the house to set up an indoor-friendly bowling lane, then grab a ball and 10 empty plastic bottles. Arrange the bottles in a triangle as you would in traditional bowling, with four in the back row, then three, two and one in each of the next three rows. Once the bottle pins are set, your family’s ready to bowl. 10) Paper plane contest This simple family game to play at home can also help teach younger children about aerodynamics. Pass out some letter-size sheets of paper and have everyone fold together their best paper airplane. Then give all the aircraft a test flight down a long, open stretch of your house. The plane that goes the farthest distance wins, though it’s always worth it to redesign your plane and try again.
